Serena Williams One Of One Navigator

A few weeks ago, we made our way to Lincoln Design Studios, Detroit, to meet Christine Park Cheng, Global Design Director at Lincoln Motor Company, for a conversation that moved easily between discipline and instinct, craft and intuition. The occasion offered something rare: a first look at a one-of-one Navigator created for Serena Williams.

Lincoln’s Black Label interiors are already conceived as immersive environments—carefully composed palettes of Venetian leather, layered wood appliqués, and meticulous stitching designed to evoke calm. This commission extends beyond that language. It becomes personal, intimate. A vehicle shaped not by demographics, but by an individual life.

THE PERSONAL LANGUAGE OF LUXURY

“It’s not every day that our team has the opportunity to design a custom vehicle for one person,” Cheng noted. “It becomes extra special when that person is Serena Williams. We understood the importance of getting it right.”

The result is a space that feels grounded and reflective. It supports the rhythms of family life while holding onto something quieter—an interior that offers pause.

Customized in collaboration with Galpin Lincoln, the Navigator carries a distinct visual language rooted in Serena’s own symbolic preferences. She has often spoken of her affinity for pink, hearts, and roses. These references are distilled into a single emblem: an elegant rose, one petal shaped into a heart. The motif appears subtly on the B-pillar and rear split gate, never overstated, always present.

PERFORMANCE MEETS STILLNESS

Color and materials designer Christine Wakefield builds the interior as a narrative. Clay Court, a rich brown leather, anchors the cabin—a quiet nod to early dominance on clay. Above it, Afterglow introduces a lighter, enveloping warmth. The seats carry a perforation pattern inspired by tennis balls, fading toward the center as if dissolving into air. Underfoot, plush sheepskin carpeting softens every movement.

The exterior, finished in Perfect Rose, refracts light with a controlled brilliance. A warm evolution of Sunrise Copper, it carries a trace of pink and a fine sparkle that shifts with the sun, like a surface in motion. Satin Rose Copper and Satin Obsidian accents refine the silhouette, while a high-gloss black upper creates contrast and composure.

Inside, the narrative turns celestial. Hand-painted constellations—the Big Dipper and Little Dipper—rest across the center console. Hidden details continue the story: hot pink lining within the glovebox and storage compartments, small gestures that feel both intimate and deliberate.

This Navigator does not announce itself loudly. It doesn’t need to. It holds presence through intention—through the careful layering of memory, material, and meaning. A vehicle, yes, but more precisely, a reflection.
