Alexander McQueen Spring 2027

McQueen Returns To London With Tailoring At Is Core

Seán McGirr brought Alexander McQueen back to London for Spring 2027, returning the house to the city where its mythology began. The collection carries plenty of cultural baggage of its own, but McGirr seems less interested in recreating McQueen than in figuring out what the house can become now.

He has cited London’s rave culture as an inspiration, although that influence feels more apparent in the atmosphere and styling than in the clothes themselves. The more convincing idea is collision: precise tailoring against silk satin, pinstripe wool against sheer fabrics, sharp jackets with ruffled and almost frou-frou skirts. There is a particularly good tension between the discipline of suiting and the softness of eveningwear.

McGirr is beginning to make McQueen his own — one sharp suit, silk blouse and radical evening dress at a time

That tension runs through the menswear as well. Lean, elongated tailoring gives the collection its backbone, while fluid shirts and satin introduce something more sensual. The strongest looks don’t need much decoration. The cut does the talking.

McGirr also clearly has the red carpet in mind. Among the tailoring and abbreviated ruffles are sculptural evening dresses with a slightly radical beauty — clothes that feel designed to have a moment rather than simply complete a collection. Those pieces are important because they suggest McGirr understands that McQueen needs spectacle, but perhaps not the kind of spectacle we have seen before.

Some of the more literal gestures, including the exaggerated collars and harness details, feel less interesting. The real promise is in the quieter friction: wool and satin, masculine and feminine, restraint and excess.

McGirr doesn’t need to remake Lee McQueen. He needs to make McQueen feel alive again.

For now, he may be getting there.
