BMW Vision Neue Klasse X

From LA

BMW Vision Neue Klasse X

To prepare ourselves for the ultimate reveal, we immersed ourselves in that LA low-key chic vibe, embracing our best John Elliott attire and indulging in the ambiance of Little Beach House Malibu. We then ascended to the rooftop of the Petersen Automotive Museum  for the North American unveiling of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, a concept that represents the future of BMW. Prior to this, we also had the opportunity to explore Designworks, a creative studio and BMW subsidiary. But more about that shortly.

Last year, we had the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with the BMW Vision Neue Klasse. Now, we’re introduced to the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) that embodies the DNA of the Neue Klasse, marking its debut as the first fully-electric SAV.

A fully-electric Sports Activity Vehicle

100% So Chic

“The BMW Vision Neue Klasse X provides a look ahead to the X models of the Neue Klasse. The same principles apply to our Sport Activity Vehicles: electric, digital, and circular,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design. “The X models will always remain strong in character: monolithic, clean, and with a very distinctive vertical interpretation of the BMW light signature.”

Upon viewing the photos, the initial standout feature is the ample ground clearance, tailored for both on and off-road escapades. Moreover, the fully electric vehicle architecture unlocks novel avenues for an even roomier interior. This layout facilitates a lengthy wheelbase, abbreviated overhangs, and quintessential BMW proportions. Enhanced by expansive window panels and a panoramic glass roof, natural light permeates the cabin, fostering an airy atmosphere. This luminosity harmonizes seamlessly with the warm-hued textiles, enhancing the sense of spaciousness.

The revamped aesthetic of BMW X models takes center stage here, with vertically aligned LED units presenting a contemporary take on BMW’s iconic light signature. At the forefront is the BMW kidney grille, transformed into a three-dimensional sculpture adorned with vertically aligned and illuminated contours. This integration of headlights and kidney grille produces a dynamic lighting effect that activates as the driver nears the vehicle, extending seamlessly into the interior ambiance.

Embracing the Expansive and Progressive Design

Plant-based material in the interior

Now, the rear section exudes dynamism in design, with lights extending prominently towards the center, offering a horizontal rendition of the iconic BMW ‘L’ shape. Enhanced by 3D-printed elements, each meticulously controlled for variable light intensity, they create an expressive depth effect.

Stepping inside, you’re greeted with a slightly elevated seating position, ensuring a confident driving experience. The redesigned steering wheel featuring multifunction buttons, the Central Display equipped with intuitive touch control functionality, and the BMW Panoramic Vision, coupled with the advanced voice control of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, collectively serve as seamless and intuitive interfaces for human-car interaction.

There’s much to explore about the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, from the upgraded BMW 3D Head-Up Display to the introduction of new cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells. However, the key takeaway is that this pioneering fully-electric SAV is set to enter series production at Plant Debrecen, Hungary, in 2025.

You’re welcome!
