GMC Hummer EV SUV 3X
The 2026 GMC Hummer EV SUV 3X remains one of the most outrageous electric SUVs on the road, pairing 830 horsepower and 3.5-second acceleration with surprising maneuverability, 35-inch tires, and the new King Crab steering mode. We take it from NYC to Montauk to see how well this electric supertruck works as a daily driver.

The Hummer EV 3X Takes on NYC and Montauk

It had been a little while since we spent time with a Hummer EV, so we were curious to see whether GMC’s electric giant still makes a convincing case as a daily driver. We went straight for the 2026 HUMMER EV SUV 3X—the most compelling version of a vehicle that remains almost wonderfully excessive.

With three motors producing up to 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb.-ft. of available torque, the 3X can reach 60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds with Watts to Freedom. It is an absurd amount of performance for something this large, but that has always been part of the Hummer’s appeal.

For 2026, the 3X also gains King Crab, a new rear-wheel-steering mode that allows the rear wheels to turn up to 10 degrees—twice the angle of the front wheels—at low speeds. Along with standard four-wheel steering and CrabWalk, these features make the Hummer surprisingly maneuverable. Around New York City, that matters more than you might expect; on tighter trails, it becomes even more useful.

The Hummer EV Still Knows How to Make an Entrance

Our Hummer was fitted with the 35-inch all-terrain tires on 22-inch wheels, a configuration that gives the enormous SUV a slightly more road-focused character. For the 2026 3X, GMC estimates up to 310 miles of range in this configuration. Those wanting to take the Hummer further into the wilderness can opt for the Extreme Off-Road Package, with 18-inch wheels, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, additional underbody protection and a GM-estimated 294-mile range.

In Montauk, New York, the Hummer EV SUV felt particularly at home. Its wide stance, squared-off profile, illuminated grille and enormous tires give it a presence that is difficult to ignore. It manages to look equally convincing parked outside a beach house or crawling over a trail—a rare trick for something this extreme.

Inside, the removable transparent Sky Panels and front I-Bar transform the cabin into an open-air space. At the same time, the generous proportions make the Hummer feel more like a modern luxury lounge than a traditional SUV. There is seating for five, plus up to 81.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats when the rear seats are folded.

The technology is equally substantial, with a 12.3-inch driver information display and a 13.4-inch center touchscreen with Google built-in. But perhaps the most convincing part of the Hummer EV experience is that, beneath all the spectacle, it works remarkably well as an everyday vehicle.

It is enormous. It is heavy. It is unapologetically extravagant. And somehow, that is exactly what makes the Hummer EV SUV 3X so much fun.

Let’s Build One.
