Let spring 2024 be your time to immerse yourself in a luxury resort experience like no other. With an air of mystery, this retreat exudes a magical and romantic ambiance, enhanced by intentional omissions. While the absence of televisions in the suites might be the first surprising amenity for the unprepared, it’s not the most notable feature missing from the cliffside resort’s 29 sanctuaries.
Each uniquely designed suite boasts an elegant and natural aesthetic, featuring a romantically draped poster bed, fine wooden furniture, chaise lounges, a dining table, and a fully stocked mini-bar. Except for the Sun sanctuaries, the private in-room infinity pools possess an irresistible allure. Adorned with handcrafted recycled glass tiles, these pools mirror the azure St. Lucian sky and twinkle with water ripples from the gentle ocean breeze.
Situated at the edge of each room, the infinity pools offer breathtaking views of the volcanic Piton Mountains, a designated World Heritage site, and the Caribbean Sea. The Pitons remain captivating from dawn to dusk, even amid a brief rain shower.”
Majestic in its design, visionary owner and architect Nick Troubetzkoy crafted the sanctuaries with only three walls (and in some cases, just two) to ensure an uninterrupted view of the Pitons and beyond. The absence of a fourth wall creates infinite space, allowing birds to freely join you during in-room dining and curious hummingbirds to fly in to say hello. The spacious rooms are cooled by large ceiling fans that circulate the air and deter mosquitoes. After admiring the views, I indulged in a refreshing soak in the heated infinity pool, understanding why many guests never want to leave their sanctuaries.
Privacy is a sacred element at Jade Mountain, and the tiered design of the building provides complete seclusion for honeymooners, VIPs, celebrities, and guests to enjoy their rooms and infinity pools without prying eyes. The impeccable service, attentive waiters, and butlers make it advisable to place the ‘do not disturb’ notification on your front door before baring all in your infinity pool.
Jade Mountain is the ultimate honeymoon destination for couples who prefer to cherish their vows with quality time rather than partake in beach volleyball after group limbo dances in the sand. For couples and families alike, there are numerous activities to enjoy at Jade Mountain and the nearby St. Lucian natural attractions. The resort shares over 600 acres of lush jungle with its sister property, Anse Chastanet, St. Lucia.
A scenic trek downward to the coconut palm-lined crescent beach offers a perfect snorkeling and calm water swimming experience. A cliffside waterfront path leads adventurous souls to a romantically secluded second beach, Anse Mamin. It’s noteworthy that Jade Mountain provides transportation to and from the beach, including water taxis, to Anse Mamin, ensuring full mobility and access for guests.
Guided walking tours along the jungle trails at the Anse Mamin Plantation, led by trained and knowledgeable resort guides, reveal the ruins of the historic sugar plantation. Within moments, you can transition from the beach to the tropical jungle, where red ginger flowers bloom, and colorful lizards scurry along the cool stone brick foundation of the ancient ruins. Mountain bikes are available for invigorating rides on cleared jungle paths. The resort also offers walking tours to nearby towns, including early Saturday morning walks to the town’s open-air market.
From Anse Chastanet beach, the resort’s 5-star Scuba St. Lucia outfits guests for snorkeling and scuba excursions, taking divers to the base of the Piton Mountains, coral reefs, and other rich diving destinations. Guests can also kayak, go deep-sea fishing, sail on the resort’s yacht ‘Serenity,’ or enjoy a jazz-themed sunset cruise on the 60ft catamaran. Scuba St. Lucia.
Crossing the resort’s pinnacle infinity bridge, which overlooks Mr. Troubetzkoy’s’ cliffside paradise, The Pitons, and the Caribbean Sea, guests enter the Jade Mountain Club. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktails, the Jade Mountain Club is a romantic oasis of calm. During my brief stay, I relished breakfast and dinner at the Jade Mountain Club, opting for the Jungle Bar and Grill’s ‘best beach burger’ one day and a waterside lunch the next.
At my early morning breakfast, I felt as if I was waking up with the Pitons. With each sip of locally grown coffee, the light on the Pitons and the bay became more pronounced as the sun rose over the eastern mountains. With an extensive menu of offerings that included seafood delicacies, fine baked goods, a bevy of rich sauces over eggs, gorgeous fresh fruit and berries, and delicious health and energy selections I found the temptations overwhelming. There’s an air of friendliness and casual comfort during breakfast at the Jade Mountain Club which is welcoming, relaxing, and remarkable in light of the precise service and formal presentations. James Beard award-winning chef Allen Susser has created ‘Jade Cuisine’ for the Jade Mountain Club. Executive chef Stefan Goehcke’s innovative fusion of the Caribbean’s richly diverse cuisines with seasonal and local products and produce is elegant in its refrain as the chef allows the inherent flavors to prevail over secondary seasonings. Dinner is a marvelous affair, often lasting nearly 2 hours and including an amuse-bouche, fine wines and spirits, and divine desserts. My course selections included the Caribbean flared Foie gras with plantains, truffle risotto, and then a delicate sautéed Lionfish – each dish was perfect! Highly personable, to the guests who want to engage, and respectful of guests who want romantic privacy the wait staff seems to move with seamless synchronicity through the open-air dining room. Cocoa trees are grown on the resort’s estate and at the onsite chocolate lab, the cocoa is processed into the chocolate served, and sold, exclusively at Jade Mountain. Needless to say, I choose a chocolate dessert to cap my culinary experience. The Chocolate Laboratory offers guests the opportunity to participate in making chocolate and chocolate fanatics can indulge themselves with chocolate body treatments at the resort’s spa.
After dinner retreat to the Celestial Terrance, located on the structure’s rooftop and accessible from the Jade Mountain Club, for a nightcap under the stars. To the sounds of infinity pools cascading waterfalls, lush palms responding to the gentle breeze and the call of the jungle fauna guests can admire the moonlight that outlines The Pitons. Alas, let it be said that even the youngest guest at Jade Mountain Resort will not want for television in the room. After a day full of activities and fine dining the evening serenity of the sanctuaries, with views to the darkness and the stars above, is alluringly restful. Jade Mountain Resort.
