BMW and Lufthansa reimagine the narrow-body cabin as a modular, design-driven space for collective luxury at altitude.

The Bow

By BMW & Lufthansa

Luxury at 40,000 feet has become less about excess and more about control—of space, of experience, of time itself. The Bow, a new cabin concept developed by BMW through its design arm Designworks in collaboration with Lufthansa Technik, reframes what shared private travel can be within the confines of a narrow-body aircraft.

Think Airbus A320 or Boeing 737—familiar forms, now reconsidered. The project draws from a growing demand for flexible, design-led travel environments that move beyond traditional VIP layouts. Here, the cabin becomes a system rather than a fixed solution.

What emerges is less a cabin than a platform. A framework that allows operators—and by extension, passengers—to shape the environment around specific needs. Layouts shift. Suites expand or contract. Social spaces open or recede. A bar can take precedence over seating, or privacy can overtake openness. The architecture is responsive, not prescribed.

The design target is not for that small group off to a Coachella weekend, but a group of high-profile users: a corporate board of directors, a professional sports team or a touring band

BMW AND LUFTHANSA DESIGN A CABIN THAT ADAPTS IN FLIGHT

Each private suite is designed to accommodate one or two passengers, functioning equally well as a place for quiet retreat, informal meeting, or shared dining. Storage is integrated with intent—capable of housing instruments, technical equipment, or personal belongings without compromise. Movable partitions allow the atmosphere to shift fluidly, from enclosed and introspective to open and collective.

Flexibility extends to capacity. Up to 28 passengers can be configured within the cabin while maintaining a sense of spatial clarity and discretion. Select compartments introduce automated elements—sections that rise or lower to recalibrate privacy in real time.
What The Bow suggests is a shift away from static luxury toward something more adaptive. A cabin not defined by what it is, but by what it can become.

In this altitude, design is no longer about arrival.

It is about how you move through the space in between.
