At the 2026 Met Gala, Zac Posen approached glamour through transformation.
Created for Kendall Jenner under the GapStudio label, the custom gown balanced sculptural restraint with theatrical movement, gradually revealing its full construction as Jenner ascended the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. What first appeared sleek and controlled opened into something far more dramatic as concealed wing-like structures emerged behind her.
Posen drew inspiration from the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the monumental Hellenistic sculpture displayed at the Louvre. The reference could be felt in the dress’s sweeping movement and sense of suspended motion, as though the fabric had been caught mid-flight.
Cut close through the torso before releasing into controlled volume, the gown reflected many of the qualities that have defined Posen’s strongest work throughout his career: precision draping, architectural shaping, and cinematic elegance. Beneath the flash of cameras, the fabric shifted between shadow and reflection, creating an almost liquid effect as Jenner moved across the carpet.
Rather than leaning into costume, Posen interpreted the evening’s “Myth And Memory” theme through silhouette and illusion. The reveal of the wings arrived gradually, unfolding behind Jenner with the softness of feathers or petals rather than theatrical spectacle.
The restraint of the moment made it especially effective.
Kendall Jenner has always understood how to let a garment breathe in photographs. Her controlled pacing and stillness allowed the architecture of the gown to remain central, turning the reveal into something quieter and more cinematic.
The collaboration also continued Posen’s evolving relationship with the Met Gala itself. Over the years, he has become known for creating highly sculpted eveningwear moments that merge old Hollywood glamour with modern fantasy, often relying on proportion and construction rather than ornament.
What made this appearance memorable was its balance. The gown carried drama, but it unfolded slowly. Even at its most expansive, the silhouette remained sharp and composed.
In a Met Gala landscape often dominated by visual overload, Posen and Jenner delivered something rarer: elegance with mystery.
