Created for Kendall Jenner under the GapStudio label, the custom gown balanced sculptural restraint with theatrical movement, gradually revealing its full construction as Jenner ascended the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. What first appeared sleek and controlled opened into something far more dramatic as concealed wing-like structures emerged behind her.
Posen drew inspiration from the Winged Victory of Samothrace, the monumental Hellenistic sculpture displayed at the Louvre. The reference could be felt in the dress’s sweeping movement and sense of suspended motion, as though the fabric had been caught mid-flight.
Cut close through the torso before releasing into controlled volume, the gown reflected many of the qualities that have defined Posen’s strongest work throughout his career: precision draping, architectural shaping, and cinematic elegance.
