From classic Valentino red-carpet ballgown luxe to many of Piccoli’s recent design motifs the Valentino Fall Winter 2022 was a regal pageant of silhouettes. Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli collaborated with Pantone to create the signature Pink PP shade that united the collection in which the silhouette seared the complimentary pink stage. In color contrast, a mid-show cycle of stunning black looks brought a respite from the brightness but not from the opulence embellishment, sensuality, or boldness that preceded and followed.
Piccioli’s vivid sculptural necklines, architectural draping, bell shapes brought structure and form, laser-cut fabrics added geometry, sheer fabric and sequence added softness, oversized knits draped, and feathers fluttered throughout. The gowns in the collection are nearly incomparable in their beauty and presence -and many are ‘very Valentino.’ Piccolo recognizes that to a new generation of red-carpet stars statement-making is an edgier endeavor and the modernization of such suits the designer with the same spark that the sky-high platform shoes bring to the looks in the collection.
