British_Airways 787-9's exquisitely appointed First-Class Cabin
British Airways is redefining the front-of-cabin experience with its new First Class offering, blending elegant design with contemporary luxury. The airline has collaborated with expert designers and world-class manufacturers across Great Britain and Ireland to create a seat that brings together thoughtful design, craftsmanship and modern comfort at 35,000 feet.
The new First Class cabin has been conceived with the atmosphere of a modern luxury hotel, combining generous personal space with carefully considered details. Its creation brought together specialists from London, Glasgow, West Yorkshire, Kilkeel in Northern Ireland, Dublin and elsewhere, reflecting the depth of design and manufacturing expertise across Britain and Ireland.

The new First Class seat is ultra-wide at 36.5 inches and converts into a fully flat 79-inch bed. A multi-purpose ottoman and elegant stowable table add flexibility, while a 32-inch 4K television and adjustable mood lighting offer settings including “Relax,” “Dine” and “Cinema.”
Privacy comes from a cocooned 60-inch curved wall, while the design retains a sense of openness and space. For passengers travelling together in the centre of the cabin, the divider can slide open to create a shared lounge area. Stowable tables also allow for “buddy dining,” turning the suite into a more social space when desired.

The cabin’s flowing curves take inspiration from the wings of Concorde, creating an aerodynamic sense of movement throughout the space. Practical details are equally considered, including dedicated personal luggage storage that allows passengers to wheel their bags directly into their suite.
The craftsmanship behind the cabin is distinctly collaborative. Collins Aerospace manufactures the seat in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, while Muirhead in Glasgow supplies the leather used throughout the suite. Replin and Hainsworth in West Yorkshire provide specialist fabrics, and Botany Weaving in Dublin supplies the wool carpets. Other contributors include specialists in Lancashire, Oxfordshire, Redditch and Belfast.
The result is a First Class experience shaped not by a single idea of British luxury, but by a broader network of design and manufacturing expertise from across Great Britain and Ireland. It is a thoughtful expression of British Airways’ contemporary identity, bringing together craftsmanship, comfort and a distinctly modern sense of place.
