Cadillac Takes Its Next Step Toward The Grid

Cadillac has made its intentions unmistakably clear.

Today, General Motors President Mark Reuss unveiled the Cadillac Formula 1® Team’s Special Edition testing livery at GM’s new global headquarters in Detroit’s Hudson’s building. The reveal marks a significant milestone in Cadillac’s journey toward the Formula 1® grid, offering an early look at how the brand is positioning itself on motorsport’s most exacting global stage.

The testing livery will debut during the all-team Shakedown Week in Barcelona, Spain, running January 26 through January 30, ahead of the official race livery reveal scheduled for February 8. Developed through a cross-continental collaboration between General Motors Global Design and the Cadillac Formula 1® Team, the livery underscores both the global reach of the program and the depth of creative and technical expertise behind Cadillac’s F1 ambitions.

A First Look At Cadillac’s Formula 1 Testing Identity Ahead Of Barcelona

Distinct from the final race livery, the Barcelona Shakedown design is intentionally bold yet disciplined. In Formula 1®, testing liveries traditionally serve a strategic role, helping to obscure aerodynamic details during pre-season development while still communicating brand identity. The approach mirrors the camouflaged prototypes long used in the automotive world, where performance comes first and aesthetics remain carefully coded.

“Our new testing livery celebrates Detroit’s design heritage and the power of the global Cadillac Formula 1® team, while keeping our design secrets under wraps,” said Reuss. “The Barcelona test is just the beginning — we can’t wait to share our official race livery with fans around the world next month.”

With this reveal, Cadillac signals that its Formula 1® program is not aspirational, but operational. The groundwork is being laid, the design language is emerging, and the countdown to Cadillac’s arrival on the grid has clearly begun.
