It was 2010 when I first flew Tradewind from San Juan, Puerto Rico to St. Barths with a seamless connection from my Delta flight. Needless to say, it was love at first flight. Their excellent charter service now flies throughout the Caribbean with scheduled flights.
In 2002, the company launched one of the first shared charter concepts in the industry, with scheduled shuttle service between private terminals at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York, Teterboro, and Nantucket Memorial Airport in Massachusetts.
Two years later, with demand growing for weekend commuters traveling to their vacation homes, Tradewind began operating its first Pilatus PC-12, the most advanced and capable eight-passenger turboprop in the industry.
In addition to Nantucket, Tradewind’s scheduled shuttle routes throughout the Northeast have expanded to include New York to Martha’s Vineyard and Stowe, with Newport the latest route to be added to the company’s schedule from July 2021. Tradewind’s shuttle flights to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard represent approximately 80 percent of the market, making Tradewind the single largest operator of non-commercial shared charter flights in the region.
Since launching 20 years ago with a single Cessna Grand Caravan, Tradewind now operates a fleet of Pilatus PC-12s and Citation CJ3 Jets widely recognized as the best-in-class light jets for medium-range private charter flights. The team at Tradewinds is also looking at the electric airliner market closely as their routes and infrastructure are poised for the first viable electric aircraft.
“From the start, we have been a part of the evolution of private aviation from a luxury to a utility, and we will continue to innovate as our market grows,” said Eric Zipkin, Co-Founder, and President. With bases in New York and San Juan, Tradewind operates both on-demand private charter and scheduled “Shuttle” service throughout the U.S. and Caribbean.
Shuttle flights offer the comfort and convenience of a private charter for the cost of a single seat. In the U.S., scheduled Shuttle flights are operated from the New York area to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Newport, RI, and Stowe, VT, and depart from private charter FBO terminals. In the Caribbean, Shuttle flights are operated between San Juan, St Barths, Anguilla, Antigua, and St Thomas. Pick A Destination and let’s go!
