We recently drove the new Ghost on the roads and hills around Austin, Texas where we had a luxurious and refreshing adventure in this Rolls-Royce created for an owner who will be most often be the driver, rather than being the driven. With the new Ghost and its energetic, dynamic personality, Rolls-Royce once again has created a special four-door driver’s car that brings joy to the driver and passengers. Ownership signals the pinnacle of your achievements and your right to the very finest that life has to offer. The Ghost customer expects the performance, prestige, and luxury of owning a Rolls-Royce.
The new luxury is not about flash, it is all but about the marriage of refreshing style with substance. Nothing propels a minimalist clean-line view of luxury more than the all-new Rolls-Royce Ghost. When the designer at Goodwood, West Sussex England refresh they mean all-new. The only carryover from the first Ghost was the Spirit of Ecstasy and signature hidden umbrellas, everything else has been designed, crafted, and engineered from the ground up.
From its aluminum space-frame architecture that was first used on Phantom, then Cullinan, to its all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering and 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, this Rolls-Royce is once again proof that the Ghost is still a true drivers car.
This New Ghost reflects an evolved appreciation of luxury, one defined by minimalism and purity, but underpinned by a great substance. Rolls-Royce said, “In the pre-sketch ideation phase of new Ghost’s design development, this treatment was named ‘Post Opulence’ – a movement defined by the authenticity of materials rather than an overt statement, which had already established roots in architecture, fashion, jewelry, and boat design.” This new minimalist aesthetic for the Ghost was the design team’s absolute objective throughout. The desired treatment was not sterile, but confident in its purity and unmistakably a Rolls-Royce.
A fantastic standout of the new Ghost is the 20 LEDS underneath the top of the radiator grille subtly illuminate the veins, this a true example design team’s obsession in making the hand-welded aluminum body structures -uninterrupted by shut lines and for the first time. The Spirit of Ecstasy is no longer surrounded by panel lines but rather stands within her own ‘lake’ of the hood.
With the fabulous new interior to a new Micro-Environment Purification System which is capable of removing nearly all ultra-fine particles from Rolls-Royce’s microenvironment in less than two minutes to that hallmark Magic Carpet Ride, the new Goodwood Ghost has been ten years in the making and it is so worth the wait.
