We had the exceptional pleasure to spend time with one of the leading makers of Italian Sparkling Wine, David Noto, founder of Altaneve. While at the cosmopolitan and acclaimed, Il Gattopardo NYC restaurant, Noto, a 10th generation winemaker, generously poured his Altaneve Prosecco, while we enjoyed the crisp snap of this delightful high-end bubbly, which pairs perfectly with white meats, white fish, vegetarian cuisine, and deserts.
Mr. Noto shared pictures of his mountainside vineyard and he shared the secrets to Altaneve’s most delectable terroir. Altaneve grapes are grown, and the wines are created, in steep foothills of the Italian Alps. Altaneve means “high snow” in Italian, and it alludes to the snow-capped Dolomite Mountains that can be seen above the steep hills of their vineyards. The hills create a temperate microclimate that lends a very special character to the grapes.
Altaneve has been designated a Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. that is composed of 100% Glera grapes, and an exclusive sparkling rosé wine composed of Pinot Nero and Glera grapes.
Altaneve Rosé’s full flavor delightedly compliments fish, cheeses, and spicy red sauces. All of Altaneve’s fine Prosecco can be enjoyed on their own, each is all-natural, sustainably produced vegan, and low in sulfites.
Their vineyards are located in Valdobbiadene, the Italian town reputed for producing the highest quality sparkling wine, and from these foothills of the Dolomites, Valdobbiadene’s steep terrain has produced grapes for winemaking for over 1000 years. This DOCG area of Prosecco production is located on an ancient seabed that was pushed up millions of years ago. The calcareous clay that lies directly beneath our vineyards contains magnesium, quartz, and dolomite which create a wonderful minerality and floral elegance in their wines.
Altaneve presents American wine lovers the first opportunity to experience ultra-premium Italian sparkling wine that, until recently, has only been available in Italy.
