With the extraordinary must come some caveats. Jade Mountain is a resort-like no other. Its magical allure is made even more delightful by that which is absent. For the unprepared, televisions might be the first alarming in-suite amenity omission, but it is not the most pronounced missing feature in the cliffside resort’s 29 sanctuaries. Aptly named sanctuaries, each unique suite is elegantly and naturally appointed with a grandly romantic poster bed generously draped with crisp white mosquito netting, fine wooden furniture, and a suite of chaise lounges, dining table, fully stocked mini-bar, which includes a daily snack bento box, large open bathroom complete with jacuzzi pool for two and, in all but the Sun sanctuaries, a private infinity pool. The large infinity pools are luminously lined with handcrafted recycled glass tiles, also used in the shower area, that capture and reflect the azure St. Lucian sky and sparkle with the water’s ripple from the gentle ocean breeze. The infinity pools, perched at the end of each room, overlook the picture-perfect volcanic Piton Mountains, a World Heritage site, and the Caribbean Sea. From dawn to dusk, and even during a brief rain shower, the Piton Mountains are a stunning sight to behold. So majestic in fact that Nick Troubetzkoy visionary owner and architect of Jade Mountain designed the sanctuaries with only three walls, (and in some cases, just two) so that the view to the Pitons, and beyond, be completely open. Without a fourth wall the Sanctuaries feel infinite, birds freely join you during in-room dining, and curious hummingbirds may just fly in to say hello. The spacious rooms are cooled with large ceiling fans that circulate the air and deter mosquitoes.
After admiring the views for a restful hour, I enjoyed a refreshing soak in the heated infinity pool, and therein I began to understand why many guests never leave their Sanctuaries. Privacy is sacred at Jade Mountain and the tiered design of the building afford honeymooners, VIP, celebrities and guest complete privacy to enjoy their rooms and infinity pools without the roaming eyes of onlookers. So complete is the care at Jade Mountain, with service, waiters and butlers that I highly recommend placing the ‘do not disturb’ notification on your front door before you bare all in your infinity pool.

Jade Mountain is the consummate honeymoon destination for couples that prefer to honor their vows with quality time rather than dancing the Limbo after beach volleyball. For couples and families, there are plenty of activities to enjoy at Jade Mountain and the nearby St. Lucian natural attractions. Sharing over 600 acres of the lush jungle with Jade Mountain Resort is its sister resort Anse Chastanet, St. Lucia. From Jade Mountain, there is a steep, yet delightfully scenic, trek down to the coconut palm-lined crescent beach. The cove bay is perfect for snorkeling and calm water swimming. A stroll along a cliffside waterfront path lead daring explores to a romantically secluded second beach, Anse Mamin. It is worth noting that Jade Mountain also offers transportation to and from the beach, and water taxi’s to Anse Mamin, insuring full mobility and all access for its guests. Walking tours, led by trained, personable and highly knowledgable resort guides, along the jungle trails at the Anse Mamin Plantation, reveal the ruins of this historic sugar plantation. It takes only moments to leave the beach and be amid the tropical jungle where red ginger flowers bloom and colorful lizards scurry along the cool stone brick foundation of the seemingly ancient ruins. There are mountain bikes available for an invigorating ride on the cleared jungle paths. The resort offers walking tours to the nearby towns of Soufriere including early Saturday morning walks to the town’s open-air market. From Anse Chastanet beach the resorts 5-star Scuba St. Lucia outfits guest and for snorkeling, and scuba excursions and take divers to the base of the Piton Mountains, coral reefs and other rich diving destinations. Guest can Kayak, go deep-sea fishing, sail on the resort’s yacht ‘Searenity’ or partake in a jazz-themed sunset cruise on the resorts 60ft catamaran. When asea, be it by boat of self-propelled, the views of the coastline and the Pitons is even more majestic, and not to be missed. Scuba St. Lucia.
Crossing the resorts pinnacle infinity bridge, which overlooks Mr. Troubetzkoy cliffside paradise, The Pitons, and the Caribbean Sea, guests enter the Jade Mountain Club. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktails the Jade Mountain Club is a romantic oasis of calm. In my brief stay, I greatly enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the Jade Mountain Club, preferring to enjoy Jungle Bar and Grills ‘best beach burger’ one day and a waterside lunch the next.
At my early morning breakfast, I felt as if I was waking up with the Pitons. With each sip of locally grown coffee, the light on the Pitons and the bay became more pronounced as the sun rose over the eastern mountains. With an extensive menu of offerings that included seafood delicacies, fine baked goods, a bevy of rich sauces over eggs, gorgeous fresh fruit and berries and delicious health and energy selections I found the temptations overwhelming. There’s an air of friendliness and casual comfort during breakfast at the Jade Mountain Club which is welcoming, relaxing and remarkable in light of the precise service and formal presentations.
James Beard award-winning chef Allen Susser has created ‘Jade Cuisine’ for the Jade Mountain Club. Executive chef Stefan Goehcke’s innovative fusion of the Caribbean’s richly diverse cuisines with seasonal and local products and produce is elegant in it refrain as the chef allows the inherent flavors to prevail over secondary seasonings. Dinner is a marvelous affair, often lasting nearly 2 hours and including an amuse-bouche, fine wines and spirits, and divine desserts. My course selections included the Caribbean flared Foie gras with plantains, to truffle risotto, and then a delicate sautéed Lionfish – each dish was perfect! Highly personable, to the guest that want to engage, and respectful of guests that want romantic privacy the wait staff seems to move with seamless synchronicity thought the open-air dining room. Cocoa trees are grown on the resort’s estate and at the onsite chocolate lab, the cocoa is processed into the chocolate served, and sold, exclusively at Jade Mountain. Needless to say, I choose a chocolate dessert to cap my culinary experience. The Chocolate Laboratory offers guests the opportunity to participate in making chocolate and chocolate fanatics can indulge themselves with chocolate body treatments at the resorts spa.

After dinner retreat to the Celestial Terrance, located on the structure’s rooftop and accessible from the Jade Mountain Club, for a nightcap under the stars. To the sounds of infinity pools cascading waterfalls, lush palms responding to the gentle breeze and the call of the jungle fauna guest can admire the moonlight that outlines The Pitons. Alas, let it be said that even the youngest guest at Jade Mountain Resort will not want for television in the room. After a day full of activities and fine dining the evening serenity of the sanctuaries, with views to the darkness and the stars above, is alluringly restful. Jade Mountain Resort.
