For a most luxurious and unforgettable getaway, we look to the Côte d’Azur as we are unquestionably awestruck with every visit to the South Of France. On our latest trip, the expansive views of the Mediterranean and Monaco from the sun-drenched decks, modern guestrooms, and cliffside perches at the stunning new Maybourne Riviera were fantastical. This stylish hotel, dining, and cocktail destination seamlessly accommodates the service a-listers expect in every part of their lives.
As fate would have it, we arrived at the Maybourne Riviera in an all-new Purple Phantom Rolls-Royce. The benefits of hard work and the joy of acknowledging success with self-pampering could not be better realized at this respite, on our mini tour through the Côte d’Azur tour.
At the Maybourne Riviera, elegant exclusivity begins at the valet station. We say goodbye to our Rolls-Royce, keen on the contemporary design, stunning style, and sheer exception that awaits us inside.
Built on a rocky peninsula high above the picturesque French town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and set in restored ancient gardens with walled walkways, citrus orchards, and a seasonal herb garden. The Maybourne Riviera is the fifth hotel of Maybourne Hotel Group, operators of Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley in London, and The
Maybourne Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. Daringly built on a rocky peninsula overlooking the picturesque town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. The architecture, amongst restored ancient gardens with picturesque walled walkways, citrus orchards, and a seasonal herb garden is magnificent. Constructed to afford dramatic panoramic views of the coastline, to Cap-Martin and Italy to the west, and Monte Carlo to the east, all framed by the cool blue of the Mediterranean Sea.
While wandering the grounds, we regard the renowned mosaic pavements, painstakingly laid by Portuguese craftsmen, that feature dramatic curves inspired by landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx’s design in Copacabana Beach. Of Course, the Maybourne Riviera has an indoor swimming pool, yet the outdoor infinity pool that is built into the rockface, and dressed with inviting orange sunbeds, is the scene stealer. We daydreamed away the afternoon enjoying the ever-changing panorama of distant sailboats and swooping hang-gliders. A glamour setting to chill poolside, La Piscine by Jean-Georges is ‘Monoco-Luxe’ at the highest level. Vongerichten’s signature truffle pizza and lobster rolls accompanied by rosemary spiked fries are the ultimate LUNCH, the Rose, view, and warm breeze a transfixing accompaniment.
Designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte this hotel features sixty-nine rooms and suites, all with fantastic sea views from their private terraces. The Maybourne Riviera is collaborating with some of the most globally recognized artists, designers, and architects to create one-of-a-kind spaces, with Andre Fu, Bryan O’Sullivan, Marcelo Joulia, and Rigby & Rigby all adding their distinctive style, as well as the Maybourne in-house design team led by Michelle Wu. In addition, the hotel has gone to great lengths to embrace the traditional arts and crafts of the region, sourcing and working with local artists and artisans to create bespoke art, glassware, ceramics, and furnishings. There is also a respectful nod to the modernist architects’ Le Corbusier and Eileen Grey who built their iconic homes in nearby Cap Moderne.
The Maybourne Riviera is already the must-visit destination on the Côte d’Azur with a host of restaurants under the creative direction of two of the finest chefs and restauranteurs in the world – the legendary Mauro Colagreco of three-Michelin star Mirazur, in nearby Menton, and past holder of the No. 1 position in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and global super-chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten whose culinary vision, has redefined industry standards and revolutionized the way we eat.
From The Maybourne Riviera Spa, designed by Andre Fu to the historic town of Roquebrune, with its 10th Century Medieval castle, ancient Vallonnet caves, and even a 1000-year-old olive tree in the center of the Old Town that still bears fruit.
It is here thanks to the town’s rich, artistic legacy of painters, poets, and writers from WB Yeats and Coco Chanel to Dali, Picasso, and Jean Cocteau, that you can have truly a luxury escape where you can do everything or nothing at the same time.
