Dior Couture

What will the art of Couture be beyond Covid? At Dior, the exquisite new couture collection looks to the divinatory arts, historical iconography, mystic symbolism, and the magical world of Tarot for each of the ensembles in the collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection was presented in a timelessly elegant and evocative short film Le Château du Tarot directed by Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone. Each look specifically represented a card from the medieval Visconti-Sforza tarot deck, hand-painted in the 15th century for the rulers of the Duchy of Milan.

Tarot Anyone?

The opulent fabrics, including silk lam, yards of gauze, rich velvets, chenille, and chiffons were adorned with embroidery, feathers, gold flourishes, crystals, and jewels. Within this voyage of self-discovery, both masculine and feminine energies are revealed and while each is naturally aristocratic their appeal, the grace and elegance is a timeless reminder the couture is a fine art. A discipline that marches on, even when looking back for inspiration, amid a future of uncertain red-carpets, galas, and celebratory gatherings. What will the future bring for couture? Tarot anyone?
