Fendi SS 2018

Bold Geometry

Fendi Spring Summer 2018

Geometry was secret behind the Spring Summer 2018 spring collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi. Elegant striped sheer silk and crisp organdie were patched together with the precision of a mathematician. The chevrons, triangles, squares, diamond and diagonal striping that resulted are graphic and fluid at the same time. Layering added depth and pattern-play in the sheer silk ensembles. Stripes morphed into plaid and the deft layering continued through the collection. Encapsulation many of the colors in this collection the designers showed a stunning plaid, mixed with stripes, fur coat in ivory, coral, gray, jade green and sky blue, over coral plaid knee-length skirt complete with matching, dark field stockings. Side slits gave the coat fluidity and emphasized the cool luxurious freedom of this collection. Shoulder revealing sleeve construction added another layer to the geometry as did the visible seams, rouching and play of tapered and a-line shapes.

Fendi Show Their Stripes

Stripes, strikingly simple in suggestion and masterfully complex in this collection create an axis for alchemy. The same could be said for the denim pieces in the collection. Ribbons flowed from the rouching and the introduction asymmetrical design into this collection played out with sophistication in the rich indigo and black dresses. Even when working with hides the designers found a balance of the natural and the symmetrical. Needless to say the collection showcased an impressive set of new and innovative accessories and bags. Mr. Lagerfeld cites a fusion of Italian Futurism with carefree Caribbean style, as their inspiration for the collection and while those might seem to be disparate notions the geometry that results is striking and lively.
