The inseparable Dean and Dan Caten celebrated their silver anniversary with a great dance party after their Fall-Winter 20/21 fashion show. The presentation included short films and video recaps of their life in fashion, edgy advertising campaigns, and a performance by Sister Sledge. The 25th anniversary of their label Dsquared2 is a true milestone in the fashion industry and these gentlemen, from very humble beginnings, have built a brand of epic proportions. They have dressed iconic superstars, Madona, Beyoncé, Jlo, Britney, and all the rest, as well as international football stars and they created award-winning clothing for the Canadian Olympic teams in Rio. While this dynamic duo lives mostly in Europe their design roots often call back the snowy and cold Canadian winters of their youth. Often, a layer of outerwear and warming wraps envelope the masculine plaid-clad lumberjack and cowboys and cowgirls, motorcyclists, servicemen, and hipsters.
What makes these men legends? It is far beyond the double-waisted, micro-fly pants in this collection, the broad shoulders and slimming waist silhouettes, the extra-high skirts for women, but these are the elements that are the key to their success. In addition to management acumen and trend-setting taste, the designers have a deep sense of the current. Their collections are always hyper-sexual, youthful, vibrant, alive, fun, playful, and rebellious. These men have been at the forefront of fashion’s zeitgeist for a quarter of a century and in this collection, many of their long time themes are updated, tightened, twisted, and justifiably celebrated.
