Not long ago we spent some time with a 2021 all-new Volkswagen ID.4, an electric SUV that rocks great styling and advanced technology all at a fantastic price.

From the second we hit the road we notice how nimble the ID.4 handled, thanks to the front suspension that is a strut-type with lower control arms, coil springs, telescopic dampers, and anti-roll bar. From the rear, you have a multi-link rear axle with coil springs, telescopic dampers, and an anti-roll bar making the ID.4 a true city car that is always open road ready.

On the outside you have the VW logo positioned centrally with the LED headlights flow backward, hinting at the aerodynamic nature of the ID.4. Inside this VW true modern design comes to life with all kinds of space. The 5.3-inch ID, Cockpit (digital driver display) replaces the traditional instrument cluster and is operated with touch-sensitive controls on the leather-wrapped multifunction heated steering wheel. Three tiles show the most important information, with the display for battery status and range underneath. The traditional gearshift is replaced by a large rocker switch on the right of the ID. The cockpit and a control panel to the left of the steering wheel integrate the lighting functions, including automatic headlights.

Beyond Winter Ready

As some of us are into the deep winter freeze, ID.4 EV is at the ready. Just as you warm up a gas-powered car you can use the Volkswagen Car-Net mobile app to start heating the ID.4 while it’s still connected to the charger. This uses energy from the grid rather than from the vehicle battery, preserving range while warming up your car. The ID.4 EV comes with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel as well as an electric resistance heater as part of the Climatronic automatic climate control system, which is designed to get to temperature faster than the traditional heaters from gas-powered vehicles. Gone are the days of your car blowing cold air until the engine warms up.

With Standard features that include rain-sensing wipers, auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone Climatronic® climate control, and KESSY® keyless access the ID.4 with a 250 miles range is city life ready and getaway weekend capable. VW ID.4.
