First Ever X7 Worth The Wait

The design and engineers at BMW wanted their first large 3 row SUV to be a statement in design and engineered unlike any other SUV in it’s class, complete with the DNA of their track ready BMW’s. In comparison to other manufactures, most auto media feel BMW is a bit late to this segment, in which Mercedes-Benz is riding high, but we say reaching near perfection takes its time. The BMW X7 is the seven series of SUVs,  it is as simple as that. With  photographer Uwe Fischer we stared our road trip in our made-in-America BMW X7 at the BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, SC where all the previous BMW X Sport Activity Vehicle model lines that have been produced since 1999. This first ever X7 is the fifth BMW model to be currently produced in Plant Spartanburg, South Carolina.  The new X7 added to the 1,400 vehicles, including the X3, X4, X5 and X6, which are already produced every day at BMW’s largest global production facility, making BMW the largest exporter of vehicles from the U.S by value.

new definition of automotive luxury

Three rows of seating for 7 passenger

Our road trip was planed to show off just how comfortable the X7 is and to showcase the BMW engineering advancements. The X7 is a head turner; the statement making new grill, the largest kidney grill ever designed for a BMW model and the slim twin headlights emphasizes the width of the car and creates massive presence. With that fabulous grill, BMW’s new design language brings the modern elegance to a segment that is starving a visual poise, assurance and an overriding sense of authority on the road. The BMW X7 represents the next stage in the premium carmaker’s ongoing model offensive in the luxury segment. From the X7’s rear doors are being bigger than the fronts to aid rear-seat access and the chrome surrounds for the windows, chrome roof rails and chrome running boards to help you climb inside.

Once inside you will notice the latest BMW infotainment system that comes complete with a huge 12.3-inch central infotainment screen and another 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel. It can be controlled either directly through the central touchscreen or with BMW’s updated iDrive control that’s located on the centre console between the two front seats. Our test car with two-tone leather in Ivory White and Midnight Blue seats was another space where BMW shined with a standard three-panel electronically controlled panoramic glass sunroof that flooded our interior with light. Combined that with the large windows, this new BMW X7 offers a very open NYC loft like space providing everyone in 3 rows that exceptional feeling of roominess within an elegantly appointed interior surroundings. Expansive surfaces and clean structures give the instrument panel a modern look and its lines flow smoothly into the door panels. Large trim surfaces framed with electroplated accents on the instrument panel and center console enhance the interior’s elegant and exclusive aura.

This the first BMW to offer true seven-seater capability with space for seven adults and a third row of seats that offer a surprising amount of elbow room, but we are loving the 2+2+2 option with a pair of ‘captain’s’ chairs in the middle that have their own separate armrests and offer the same level of electrical adjustment as the seats up front. Whether you go for the six or the seven-seat configuration, the middle row can slide forwards and backwards by so you can balance knee room between the middle and back row of seats. When loading the BMW the car’s standard air suspension, which crouches down to, help slide in heavy luggage, and with that splitting tailgate that makes the bay completely flat thanks to great engineering. The first ever BMW X7 comes in a choice of two updated gasoline engines, the xDrive50i, with an extensively updated 4.4-liter V8 engine and a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine and the xDrive40i. All engines get their power through an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, while BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive is on hand to ensure that power is transferred into secure progress for on or off road. With advanced driving assistance technology, like Active Protection, Active Driving Assistant Professional, Active Blind Spot Detection and standard Command vehicle controls, navigation, and entertainment on the latest BMW iDrive 7.0 system with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. Simply bring it to life with “Hey BMW,” or your own personal activation word the first ever X7 is the new segment leader. BMW X7.
