The Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo’s high standards for luxury include the work of legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld, who designed of the outdoor public and pool area for this landmark. Commissioning Karl Lagerfeld was sheer brilliance. His masterpiece is an expansive backlit etched glass mural 18 panels in length that frames the pool and the surrounding Odyssian concept area. “Ulysses’ Journey around the Mediterranean Sea,” depicts scenes from Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey recreated by Mr. Lagerfeld. His photographs were placed over historical images of the Greek coastline and etched into glass to create this timeless tableau.
Odyssey, designed by Karl Lagerfeld features Joel Robuchon’s third restaurant within the hotel, and the glamour of al fresco dining is matched only by the delicious cuisine. On July 2nd, Chef Rodrigo de la Calle’s Michelin star restaurant “El Invernadero” moves into its summer quarters at Odyssey. As in every other year during the summer season, the restaurant ODYSSEY opens its doors to a nonresident clientele. Summer nights intensify the decor signed Karl Lagerfeld, who gave it a tailor-made atmosphere. Odyssey has always given precedence to top-notch gastronomy featuring fresh, high quality, seasonal ingredients, prepared with real precision to guarantee their authentic taste.
On evenings throughout July and August, from Tuesday to Saturday, the restaurant “El Invernadero” opens its doors in this exceptional setting. Christophe Cussac, the hotel’s Executive Chef, has in fact invited the Chef from Madrid and his entire kitchen brigade to recreate on site his “gastrobotanic” cuisine. Rodrigo de la Calle will further enhance the magic of the setting by presenting his unique gastronomy based on respect for nature, where vegetables take the starring role. “I am very moved to be here in Monaco this summer,” confides the Chef.
“In fact, my collaboration with the Joël Robuchon Laboratory since 2014 was a defining moment in my professional career. Monsieur Robuchon always had faith in me; he was also convinced that the future of gastronomy would consist of locally produced ingredients, and that the future would be green! Today, I am extremely proud to be able to share this common vision with clients at the Hotel Metropole MonteCarlo.”
Of course Mr. Lagerfeld’s selection of the world’s top models add to the beauty of the centerpiece tableau, which grandly defines the space without overpowering its intimacy. Mr. Lagerfeld’s Odyssey total concept for the pool area includes striking black and white outdoor furnishings, graphic table settings, crisp white umbrellas and cabanas, lush landscaping, and a cover for the winter months. Needless to say this is a hot destination for evening cocktails and dining. At night star lights sparkle from the bottom of the pool and the guests are the glittering jewels.
The internationally acclaimed Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo has always been a unique haven of luxury and style embodying the mystical aura and allure of the glittering principality of Monaco. With a mix as masterful as the cuisine at the hotel’s internationally acclaimed two-Michelin star Restaurant Joel Robuchon Monte-Carlo, the Hôtel Métropole’s is exceptional in every way. Elegant, opulent old world glamour is shaken, not stirred, with a dash of modern decadence, and garnished with quiet refinement to create VIP service and comfort for its guests.
