The Icosae Spring/Summer 2018 collection brought us flashbacks of early 2000’s era punk-rock artists Green Day and My Chemical Romance. In this fourth collection by designers Valentin and Florentin Glémarec the brothers revived punk with a blitzkrieg of irreverence.
This collection recalls lost weekend spent in an underground club under the Point Alexander III bridge in Paris. The collection includes delicate prints and quotes rock style with wit and reverence. Some of the jackets are oversized as that trend is still working and contrasting the clip-cut menswear trend.
The attitude and aura were far grittier than one would initially expect from a Parisian runway. Bleached denim, muscle tanks and studded hardware exhibited textbook edge and rebellion. Tailored through the Icosae aesthetic however, these elements were sharp and sleek. Indeed, accompanied by structured jackets, sateen shirts and trousers with studded hems (a personal favorite), the overall look was punk remastered. Never the fool, Icosae was one step ahead and tackled the iconic fashion archetype with new edge tact and witt.
