In the fashion world very few designers stand out like Joshua Katcher, adjunct professor of fashion at Parsons The New School and founder of Brave GentleMan, the world’s first all-vegan luxury menswear store.
For Spring/Summer 2018, Brave GentleMan features shorts, pants and shirts in original botanical and snake prints designed by Joshua Katcher, printed on organic cotton with a waterless system. A slim-cut, organic cotton canvas suits in bright blue, sporty moto and bomber jackets, blazers and vests in supple, Italian high-tech future-suede, oversized totes and casual briefcases in strong, Italian future-leather, and the collection included classic footwear styles like loafers and longwings in stark white with rich browns. Details like slim, turned-edge belts w/ dead-stock buckles, corozo suit and shirting buttons and light, organic batiste shirting, pocketing and lining make this collection as practical as it is aspirational. As always, Brave GentleMan delivers menswear and accessories made in NYC and Europe that sets new standards for sustainable luxury with superior, vegan materials. “I think about the conditions that animals are in for the fashion industry—it just breaks my heart,” says Katcher “We live in a culture where masculinity is often [equated] with brutality, when in fact it takes great strength, knowledge, and control to be kind.”
Brave GentleMan, last year’s winner of PETA UK’s Menswear Fashion Awards, calls themselves “disruptive menswear,” but this particular brand of rebellion is the compassionate kind. The vegan clothing line—famous for its classic suites, outerwear and shoes, specializes in high-end pieces made from organic, recycled, and 100 percent vegan materials from fair-trade sources.
