The Jaguar I-Pace all-electric, the first all electric vehicle from Jaguar, is not just a landmark vehicle for this British auto maker, but for the whole EV industry and true Jaguar enthusiast drivers will not be disappointed. Sorry not sorry Elon Musk, but we did hear Space X is doing well. The Jaguar I-Pace, a fully electric all-wheel-drive crossover has been filling a void for the people who want an electric vehicle but don’t want to forego driving dynamics and style. The Jaguar I-Pace can blast 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and the car can boast a range of up to 234 miles. With Jaguar InControl™ and Jaguar Sequential Shift™ this new car fits the bill for household with busy work weeks full of commutes and carpools, while allowing plenty of latitude for weekend getaways.
The Jaguar I-Pace gets it’s strong design lines from the Jaguar’s 2010 C-X75 concept super car and this Jaguar is lower and more aerodynamic then the Tesla Model X. With a footprint about the same as the F-Pace , yet not much bigger than Jaguar’s XE compact car the new I-Pace has a unique styling DNA. The innovative cab-forward design affords passengers with all kinds of space, from the I-Pace’s short hood most of the cars body trails behind. The wheels are placed to the corners giving the I-Pace an aggressively broad stance.
Designed from the start as an EV, the I-PACE offers bold aero-efficient design and interior space for five adults and luggage. “The I-PACE’s electric power train offered us unprecedented design freedom. Starting with a clean sheet enabled the dramatic cab-forward profile, unique proportions and exceptional interior space – yet it is unmistakably a Jaguar. We wanted to design the world’s most desirable EV, and I’m confident we’ve met that challenge.” Said Ian Callum Director of Design Jaguar.
The fashion forward lines and bold proportions are a direct result of the advanced electric drivetrain and architecture that is the life of the I-PACE. The cab-forward profile is a natural progression of Jaguar’s design language, retaining key characteristics including the grill and distinctive sweep of the above daylight opening.
With its exciting proportions and sleek coupe like silhouette, including its sweeping front fenders, dramatic curves, muscular haunches and striking waistline, as well as imposing 22-inch wheels the design announces it specialness with first impressions. It is the aerodynamic features including a front hood sweeping roofline and squared-off rear that helps this Jag get its 240 miles plus range.
The grill has evolved into a bold aerodynamic feature, channelling airflow through the integral front hood scoop and over the windscreen onto a roofline to reduce drag. Airflow for battery cooling and the climate control system passes through Active Vanes in apertures in the front bumper, which open when required, and through the grill.
Flush door handles preserve the clean lines and contribute to the superb aerodynamics, emerging from the body at the push of a button on the key fob, or when touched. This attention to detail is heightened on models equipped with optional air suspension, which improves efficiency and optimizes range by lowering the vehicle by 10mm at speeds above 65mph (105km/h) to reduce drag. The New York City loft like interior with a glass roof offers a massive amount of rear legroom and includes all kinds of stowage areas. With no transmission tunnel in the centre of the car, there is a large compartment in the centre console for all the days must-haves. Trays under the rear seats also provide perfect storage for tablets and laptops. The rear luggage compartment is larger than most medium-sized SUVs and despite the dramatic sloping roofline there is plenty of rear headroom because of the low-slung seating position, which provides a sportier, more enjoyable driving position without compromising posture or space.
But it is this full-size panoramic roof floods the cabin with light and gives the interior an even greater sense of space. Both the glass roof and windows absorb infrared light, keeping the cabin cool and removing the need for blinds. Customers can choose seats upholstered in either fine-grain Windsor leather or a sustainable, premium textile alternative developed with Danish textile experts Kvadrat – a high quality material that combines a durable wool-blend with recycled technical suede cloth.
Materials are carefully chosen to provide a blend of natural finishes and high-tech surfaces, including deep piano black, satin wood grain and precision-machined aluminum. The contemporary color palette emphasizes the sense of space and lightness inside, while the option of slimline performance seats further enhances the sports car feel of the I-PACE interior.
This new Jaguar has the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, utilizing an innovative combination of touch screens, capacitive sensors and tactile physical controls, Touch Pro Duo is intuitive to use. A new EV navigation system goes beyond the route to destination with insights from previous journeys, including driving style, to calculate your range and charging status with exceptional accuracy for maximum driver confidence. The advanced system uses ‘Smart Settings’ technology driven by AI algorithms to identify individual driver preferences, and then tailors the I-PACE’s driving and interior settings accordingly. The all-wheel-drive I-Pace gets most of it’s power from a pair of Jaguar-developed engines, one mounted on each axle. The engines delivers 392 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque, enough power to launch the I-PACE from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in about 4.5 seconds. The I-Pace’s top speed is 124 mph. The I-Pace’s long wheelbase provides such superb handling that will look for every curvy road you can find. Jaguar I-Pace.
