On March 28, 2018, Genesis officially introduced the 2019 G70 luxury performance sedan to the U.S. market, a competitor in the highly competitive entry-level luxury segment at the New York International Auto Show. Inclusively designed and engineered for the person that wants driver-focused performance, refined luxury, advanced technology, and world-class ownership experience.
In the year since its debut, the 2019 G70 has won many awards, including the prestigious 2019 Motor Trend Car Of The Year and that well-deserved notoriety will continue with the 2020 models that are at dealers now. For 2020 the G70 will offer new features including a power truck available on the 3.3T Prestige and above, and the very elegant Black Forest Green exterior color, previously a special edition color, is a standard color choice. Savile Silver is a new color choice and all-season tires are now available with 19” wheel.
We traveled to Newport Rhode Island to spend time driving on curvy coastal and rural roadways admiring both the dramatic and picture-perfect scenery and the “Athletic Elegance” design and responsive handling in the G70. With its long hood and short overhangs, dynamic roofline, and high beltline the G70’s a sleek profile is accented by Genesis Crest Grille with distinctive linear LED daytime-running lights all in tandem to make a bold design statement. The G70 is built to go head to head to other sedans costing thousands and the momentum for Genesis and the G70 is enthusiastic.
Like the 2019 model, this 2020 will go beyond your expectations with its driver-focused experience and with the quality of materials used throughout. The engineering details and styling, both inside and out, is impressive. Genesis designers specified genuine brushed aluminum surfaces, quilted Napa leather seats, stainless steel speaker grilles, and premium stitched soft-touch surfaces throughout the interior. Our optional 15-speaker Lexicon high-fidelity audio system with QuantumLogic® surround-processing technology gave us a truly immersive listening experience.
“At Genesis, we shape fascination and desire with the passion, dedication, and talent from our designers,” said Executive Vice President Luc Donckerwolke, Head of Genesis Design. “The G70 is designed to captivate all the senses with it’s tensioned, muscular exterior, and rich, tactile interior.
A standout for us was how our driving changing preferences are accommodated with five available drive modes. Adjustable elements include powertrain response, steering weight, engine sound, all-wheel drive torque distribution, and suspension firmness. Custom-drive mode further adjusts a variety of vehicle parameters to suit preferences or driving conditions. The optional high-performance Brembo® on our test car brakes gave exceptional stopping power and good fade resistance, thanks to 13.8-inch ventilated front rotors.
The G70 rounds out the Genesis brand’s sedan lineup and with an SUV on the way the luxury brand offerings will be even more impressive. Here is a suggestion, if you don’t know how to drive manual, learn. Genesis is offering an optional 6-speed manual gearbox with the 2.0T RWD model that brings the fun to drive factor off the charts.
At posting The Genesis G70 took top segment honors in this month’s J.D. Power 2019 Multimedia Quality and Satisfaction Study. In taking this award among all compact premium segment cars and SUVs, the brand adds to its consecutive first place overall finishes in J.D. Power’s 2018 and 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Studies (IQS).
